The Wiley Post Commission was initially conceived and promoted by a local group of Oklahoma City pilots, aviation enthusiasts and historians to promote the legacy of Oklahoma’s noted aviation pioneer Wiley Post.

One of the Commission’s stated missions in promoting the legacy of Wiley Post is the annual presentation of the Wiley Post Spirit Award to an individual, groups of individuals or organizations(s) whom have distinguished themselves by landmark meritorious contributions(s) in or to Aviation, while best exemplifying the inspiration, courage, dedication and pioneering spirit of Wiley Post.  It may be given in recognition of a lifetime commitment, a singular achievement or both.

Nominations for future award consideration may be sent by letter at any time, specifically detailing the accomplishments of the nominee and their relationships to the fore mentioned award criteria.  The commission’s selection committee consists of aviation professionals, amateur aircraft builders, pilots, and aviation supporters and enthusiasts, and collectively make a final decision and determination on all awards presented on behalf of the Wiley Post Commission.  The recipient is announced in January of each year and is formally presented at our Wiley Post Spirit Awards Banquet the first Friday of April of each year.
